Vintage Japanese Arita Porcelain Rice Bowls Pair Hand Painted Gozangama Signed

Pair of hand-painted Japanese porcelain rice bowls from the Arita

kiln Gozangama. Decorated in the Imari palette — underglaze cobalt

blue with red and green overglaze enamel.

MEASUREMENTS

5" diameter x 2 5/8" deep

DECORATION

Hand-painted throughout, with no transfer printing. Brushwork is

visible in the varying stroke weight and the pooling of cobalt where

the brush lifted. Each bowl has its own interior pattern, as Japanese

sets are traditionally made — one on a deep blue ground with enameled

floral cartouches, the other on a pale ground with looser floral

brushwork. Both share the same pale blue dashed exterior and an

iron-brown line at the rim.

MARK

Both bowls carry an identical three-character mark, hand-painted in

underglaze blue: 吾山窯 (Gozangama / Gozan Kiln), Arita. Shown in

the photos.

CONDITION

No chips, cracks, or hairlines. Light surface wear consistent with

use. Please see all photos.

Ships double-boxed, each bowl wrapped and separated.
